Why should everyone have a PHR?
A PHR allows individuals to be more active partners in their healthcare, and gives them up-to-date information when and where they need it.
A PHR provides a single, detailed, and comprehensive profile of a person’s health status and healthcare activity. It facilitates informed decisions about the care of the
individual. It may also reduce duplicate procedures or processes-such as repeated lab tests and x-rays-saving time and money. A PHR helps people prepare for appointments,
facilitates care in emergency situations, and helps track health changes.
PHRs grant patients access to a wide range of health information sources, best medical practices, and health knowledge.
All of an individual’s medical records are stored in one place instead of paper-based files in various doctors’ offices.
Upon encountering a medical condition, a patient can better access test results, communicate with their doctors, and share information with others suffering also.
In short the aim of PHR is to give an accurate summary of a patient’s medical history, which can be accessed online
People believe that PHR is similar to EHR. But this is not the case. EHR is a computer record that is managed by doctors.
A Personal Health Record can be generated by physicians, pharmacies, and hospitals. It focuses on providing patients to manage their information when needed.
In general, PHR needs anything that helps you and doctors manage your health. It includes information like doctor’s names, drug allergies, family history, dates of illness, and other dosages.
PHR offers several benefits to patients and healthcare professionals.
1. PHR offers several benefits to patients and healthcare professionals simultaneously,
For instance, it offers patients the opportunity to submit their data to the clinicians
directly which provides clinicians a better understanding of their patients medical history.
2. The healthcare organization can reduce administrative costs by using a PHR with easy access to electronic prescriptions and scheduling applications.
3. It analyzes data from home-monitoring devices and reminds you of your doctor's appointments.
4. It tracks your vaccination and appointments that makes your treatment organized. According to some studies its also proven,
when parents take PHR for their children, they are likely to get treated in a better way.
5. It improves patient engagement by letting them access everything about their health. When patients can track their health status,
it becomes easier for them to select better treatment on time.
6. It promotes better health by helping patients manage information from different providers. It also ensures patient information is available online.
Know about the Eligiblity of creating a PHR
So, when it comes to the eligiblity criteria its very easy for everyone. Anyone can create their personal health record (PHR) address. However, certain PHR platforms may have specific eligibility requirements, such as minimum age or residency in a certain country.
Additionally, some PHR platforms may be designed for specific populations or health conditions, such as diabetes or mental health.
In these cases, the platform may require individuals to meet certain eligibility criteria, such as a diagnosis of a specific health condition.
It's important to note that creating a PHR account is voluntary, and individuals have the right to decide which information to include in their records.
It's also important to ensure that the PHR platform chosen meets the individual's needs and is it compatible with their healthcare provider's systems.
